In this article I want to discuss the topic of increasing anxiety due to world events. And the most important thing is to remind you how and how to help yourself during such periods. The state of ignorance and uncertainty is considered one of the most unbearable for a person. Because of this, compulsive viewing of the news, scrolling through social networks, discussion with friends, colleagues and loved ones of an exciting topic in search of answers begins. It seems to us that by immersing ourselves in a topic, we are in control of the situation. In fact, we put anxiety at the center of our lives. To reduce anxiety and avoid its total influence, I want to recommend several rules: ✔ Limit the flow of information. Consciously and purposefully. Let it be minimal viewing of the news, and not surfing the net in search of answers. ✔ Help your loved ones switch their attention to current concerns, rather than endlessly discussing the news. ✔Stop believing the words “My friend works in..., he said that...”. ✔ Expand the locus of control from the outside world to your life. Work, study, household chores and hobbies should occupy most of your attention and energy. ✔Do not cancel your usual rituals, meetings with friends, walks and other pleasant things. When the whole world is “shaking,” it is important to be able to enter into a “schizoid position” - to be, as it were, detached, in your own world with your own affairs and concerns. This is not about selfishness, but about preserving mental energy and real control, not an illusion. But it seems to me that the ability to ground yourself, return yourself and your view from the outside world to reality is the best way to cope with anxiety. The ability to give yourself a sense of stability in what is and an understanding of your ability to influence it can help during unstable periods. I especially remember Remarque and his special gift for showing happiness in the little things: drinking Calvados with loved ones until the morning, the joy of a delicious dinner, frank conversations, enjoying the weather, even if there is no change on the Western Front... Share if you are worried about what is happening in the world? Is it possible to “not drown” yourself with news??
