Psychological consultationConsultation with a psychologist or psychoanalytic psychotherapy. What is the difference? A person turns to a psychologist (psychoanalyst), usually in a difficult life situation, when he realizes that he does not have enough internal resources to cope on his own . How can you decide what kind of help is needed? As a rule, a difficult life situation is the tip of the iceberg of psychological problems. Any situation can be represented as an iceberg, 1/10 (the conscious part) of which is above the water, and 9/10 (the unconscious part) is hidden under water. We all understand that the iceberg does not float in the direction of the wind, but in the direction of the underwater current. The ocean of the unconscious has its own “rules” and its own “laws” to which, whether we like it or not, our life obeys. If you want to understand more about your life situation, see it from the other side, find possible ways out and feel that you are ready to cope on your own, then consulting a psychologist is what you need. If you understand that your problem is somewhat deeper and you are aware of its main causes, if you want to change the course and quality of your life (the undercurrent carrying the iceberg), then it is best to resort to the help of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Consultation with a psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapy are different types of psychological assistance, and now, before making an appointment with a psychologist, it is important to understand what the main difference is. Consultation with a psychologist is a conversation about your problem, about your life situation, aimed at clarifying it psychological causes and search for possible solutions. Consultation with a psychologist can: - help you see the iceberg of the problem and look into its underwater part; - understand the psychological reasons for the current situation; - see hidden cause-and-effect relationships; - outline ways out of a problematic situation; - bring understanding and relief. It is important to remember that one consultation: - cannot completely resolve the problem and change the quality of your life; - is not able to help a person resolve the internal conflict behind the current situation; - Provides only the direction of the solution, but not the solution itself. In order to To resolve these and other problems, psychoanalytic psychotherapy is needed. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a long and painstaking process of working on oneself. Its main task is to understand oneself and one’s inner world (finding unconscious relationships, recognizing and resolving internal conflicts). What does psychoanalytic psychotherapy give? — deep understanding of yourself (your internal unconscious goals, motives, drives, impulses and desires); — resolution of internal conflicts; — Unlike consultations with a psychologist, psychoanalytic psychotherapy has more requirements and limitations: — long-term work; — stability in time and setting (psychotherapeutic contract);—a collision with one’s own inner world and resistance;—requirements for investing not only time and money, but also mental strength. If you overcome all the difficulties, then as a result you will be able to:—withstand difficult situations and find an independent way out of them;—better understand yourself and become a friend to yourself; - improve relationships with people around you; - resolve internal contradictions that prevent you from living
