From the author: Continuation of the article “How can an athlete cope with anxiety?”2. Family It is very important that both father and mother join in the daughter’s activities. So that they participate not only financially (tennis is a rather expensive sport), but also emotionally. Parents need to love this sport, root for their child and support him in every possible way. Parents cannot criticize, scold the athlete for losses, incorrect technical actions, incorrect psycho-emotional condition.Parents should constantly feed the child with their LOVE, and a coach and a sports psychologist should analyze the game. Ideally, in a family, the mother should not scold or punish the child. Dad should do this. A mother should only LOVE and support the child. Therefore, it is not advisable for a mother to train her daughter, since everything related to achievement requires structure, rigidity, frustration, criticism. By training your daughter, you develop her physically, but destroy her psycho-emotionally. She doesn’t even have anyone to cry to, so she cries excessively at competitions. Very often, in my practice as a sports psychologist, I have to work with parents to ensure that they do not criticize their child athletes either during the game or after. As soon as the parents understand this and change their approach, without trying to replace or complement the coach, and they begin to fully fulfill their responsibilities as a parent, the situation immediately changes - the athlete begins to progress. I bring to your attention the third area for correction - the personality of the athlete. Ideally, this should be carried out by a professional sports psychologist, in person or via modern communications: telephone, skype, viber, whatsapp. Since the entire amount of work that is carried out with athletes in terms of personal development cannot be described within the framework of this article, I will give short examples from my psychological practice. A 13-year-old boy came to me with a request to relieve anxiety before competitions and improve sports results. He was involved in swimming. I conducted a correction course with him, taught him autogenic training, and he began to use it before competitions and in between swims. The result did not take long to wait. He went to a competition where most of the participants were stronger than him. I went, not hoping for prizes, to gain experience. And the result was excellent - he brought 4 medals from there: 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. At the end of October, a “tennis” mom contacted me. She wrote: “We seem to have broken the child. We have been playing tennis for seven years. Now we are 12 years old. Those. 6-12 workouts per week and everything is VAuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu we are the best! Here we are playing the Russian Championship, the Southern Federal District Championship, the Krasnodar Territory Championship and the trouble of 5th-8th place. And now we play category 4 tournaments and lose. We have a psychotherapist, but she is a general civilian psychologist. AND IT DOES NOT help US. And the girl is bright and athletic! When she plays her game, people come to watch. And now she hasn't played for the last 3 months. We scolded her too much for losing. But without drive, she is bored and ready to work. But the last match..... She was afraid for half the game, and hysterical for half. Help us, we understand... I worked with the athlete for 2 weeks and in early November, at the tournament, she showed a completely different game. Confidence, freedom, and beauty of the game appeared. Fears, excitement, aggression are gone. Yes, she has not yet become the winner of the tournament, but “Moscow was not built in a day.” A sports psychologist is not a magician - he doesn’t do miracles in an instant! The desired results and achievements come as a result of long, fruitful teamwork. The athlete took 5-8 place in the tournament. There is still something to work on to form a champion. But most importantly, together we managed to pull the athlete out of a psycho-emotional crisis, saving her for tennis and future victories!
