Raising children involves a combination of two different aspects. The first side is acceptance and response, and the other side is demand and control over the child. Based on this combination, four types of parenting are described, namely: Authoritarian Parenting This type of parenting is synonymous with parents who restrict children with rules that must be obeyed. If a child breaks the rules, parents often punish or even beat them. The communication that occurs between parents and children is not warm. When punishing, parents do not explain to their children why certain actions should not be done. This lack of communication results in children not necessarily understanding anything in common with their parents. As a result, children raised in this way may be unhappy, fearful and anxious compared to other people. In addition, these will also be children who do not show initiative in activities and have little communication skills. Negligent Parenting Negligent parenting is also known as uninvolved parenting. Parental involvement in working with children is very limited, both material and emotional support. As a result, children feel that they are not as important as other aspects of their parents' lives. As children develop, they tend to be socially incompetent, lack self-control, and have good independence. They may also have low self-esteem, be lonely in the family, and be developmentally immature. Permissive Parenting This type of parenting is also known as permissive parenting. A distinctive feature of this type is parents who always give what their children ask for. Parents rarely give control, so children never learn to control behavior and always expect to get what they ask for. In addition, children rarely learn to respect other people. Being a child who is dominant, self-centered, unwilling to give in and has difficulty making friendships are some of the potential risks in his development. Authoritative Parenting Authoritative Parenting is the preferred type among the other three types. Children raised in this way are cheerful, self-controlled, self-confident, and achievement-oriented. In a social environment, children are also able to maintain warm relationships with friends, cooperate with adults, and cope well with stress. So what do parents do about authoritarian parenting? Parents support children to be independent, but still set boundaries and control over them. Established communication is warm and affectionate communication. Parents also demonstrate satisfaction and support for the child's constructive behavior. However, it is important to understand that in fact the best teacher in raising children is the child himself. With children we can learn directly about what attitude we should take. We just need to open ourselves up to learn more from them. Understand that children have a right to love as well as education from their parents to support their optimal development. Try to be a good parent!
