Parents and teenagers often imagine a trip to a psychologist as something scary. That parents will be told that your child is abnormal, that they did something wrong somewhere. Or they will say something devaluing and useless, as some experts say, like “Cheer up in the morning, do exercises and everything will pass!” In fact, the task is not to drown the parent in his guilt, but to invite him to cooperate, to work together. And the fact that families have already reached out and asked for help is already a big step towards a bright future! My task, as a psychologist, is not to compete with parents, but to establish such good contact between parents and children that they do not need a psychologist. To supplement the deficits fill the child with resources and self-confidence. To help overcome crises in his life and heal wounds from traumatic events. I have children’s and individual parent meetings, and there are also joint family meetings. Therapy with children and adolescents differs from adults in that the child is formed and is highly dependent on the environment. From the way his relatives, peers, teachers and educators treat him. They cannot simply leave their family and live separately; they are often helpless to change anything at school. Children are unmotivated clients. They do not have a clear and direct request; the only exceptions are conscious older teenagers. And most of it goes into finding contact, creating a safe atmosphere where the child can open up and trust. I often use gaming methods, creativity, music in my classes - this helps to form The child has what he can do that I CAN do myself. These are small building blocks to his self-esteem, to gradual trust and contact with others through play. I don’t just play with them, I always reflect on what they have done and what they are specifically good at. This is especially good if the teenager has a very strong inner critic and suppressed self-confidence, where all successes are devalued. Through the reflection of others we understand who we are. This works not only with children, but also with adults. We are connected to others and cannot exist separately, even with existing progress. Everyone wants to communicate, love, be happy. What games do you like to play? What makes you fulfilled and resilient??
