With the advent of Covid, our lives were divided into “Before” and “After”. A strange infection has affected all areas of life. Today, many have already recovered from the disease, some have antibodies to the virus, and there are those who have been vaccinated. I have antibodies and was vaccinated, by the way. Covid touched each of us personally or family members, friends, colleagues, acquaintances. Thank God if there was no tragedy. After all, the virus is really dangerous and poorly studied! Conversations about Covid have not stopped for 3 years. It seems that the statistics are encouraging and the numbers of newly ill people have begun to decline! Hope appears in my soul: soon the epidemic will end and we will live as before. But it was not there! A new wave of viral attack arrives, the virus mutates and new strains appear. The number of patients is growing. Again we hear sad news about death from Covid. Again, tension, uncertainty, when will it all end and icy fear... Scary to get infected. Scary to get sick. Scared to die. Fears are starting to control our lives. Recently, a friend refused to go on vacation out of fear of getting infected. The client said that she bought a ticket to Sochi, but there was no peace in her soul. Every day he intends to return his tickets, in case something happens in a foreign city. An acquaintance said that he has not met his friends for a year, he is afraid of infecting his elderly parents. I think that you can easily continue and tell similar stories from the life of those around you. How to return to normal life in Covid times? How to overcome fears? Is it possible to prepare for or prevent the disease? I would like to share with you an excerpt from the article by A.F. Ermoshin ALGORITHM FOR RESTORING THE NORMAL OPERATION OF THE AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM AND IMMUNITY DURING COVID-19: Many people are faced with the fact of the disease without this kind of preparation. They may experience increased fear and tension. Research data cited by D. N. Protsenko, chief physician of the City Clinical Hospital No. 40, a clinic for the treatment of Covid-19, confirms this. The study was conducted by the hospital together with the Moscow State University of Management (2021).D. N. Protsenko mentions a similar study (Taquet, Maxime et al., 2021), among the conclusions of which: “COVID-19 is strongly associated with an increased risk of neurological and mental disorders within 6 months after diagnosis.” Unfortunately, fear is not a helper in recovery. Hormones of stress and fear, such as adrenaline and cortisol, have a depressing effect on the immune system (2021). These hormones are justified when encountering a tiger, but not when encountering a virus. When fighting a dangerous animal, vasospasm, increased blood clotting in case of injury and other effects caused by adrenaline are justified, but with a viral infection these effects are harmful. It is known that adrenaline is the No. 1 drug for suppressing anaphylactic shock and other dangerous allergic reactions. The long-term effects of cortisol are known to be destructive to the immune system. Fighting off an infection requires calmness, following doctors' instructions, and trusting your immune system. For its normal functioning, the immune system does not require a person’s anxiety, much less his fear or horror. How can a psychologist help with Covid if you are already sick or have experienced the negative consequences of the disease or are very afraid of getting sick? Below is a plan for a psychologist’s work with a client who has faced with the covid 19.1 virus. We work through information defeat and increase our sense of competence.2. We help the immune system work.3. We work through all the accompanying experiences that can weaken and sap the body’s strength.4. Teaching clients the basics of self-regulation, developing the ability to independently monitor and regulate their condition. P.S. Life brought Covid into our lives. We need to learn to live with it, while maintaining calm and good spirits. Fear destroys immunity and health. We have the power to make a choice and become the master of our fears! For this.
