And in order to get the maximum benefit from this procedure, it would be good to adhere to a few simple rules: 1. Make a list of what brings (or once brought) you pleasure. This could be anything from your favorite meal to watching sunsets or lying on the couch. The more complete your list is, the better. In the future, you can adjust and supplement it. 2. Take time to find what you can praise yourself for today. It may be difficult for you at first, especially if you are more accustomed to scolding and punishing yourself (depriving yourself of something). Be patient with yourself. Do it carefully, take your time, and the result will not take long to arrive. You will definitely find such events. 3. Describe what you praise yourself for. For example: I’m great for restraining myself and not arguing with my boss today. I’m smart, because I finally made an appointment with the dentist; I went out for a walk at lunch; I talked about an important, but not very pleasant topic, etc. 4. After praising, reward yourself with something from your “pleasure list.” This will reinforce the desired behavior, and next time it will be easier for you to “remember” to praise yourself. Choose what you see as pleasure on this particular day. If “in general, I love ice cream, but specifically today I don’t want it,” then you shouldn’t choose it that day.... Do this every day for at least 6 weeks and you will develop a useful skill. It will help you take a more objective look at your actions, increase confidence in yourself and your abilities, and allow you not to give up, but to successfully move towards even the most distant goals..
