Today I will write about one phenomenon from practice. It is not often found, but it is definitely of interest to psychologists, doctors and all people interested in psychology. Introductory: girl, 31 years old, 2 children, excellent relationship with her husband, wonderful, trusting relationship with her father, but strained relationship with her mother (her mother suppresses her). A girl and her family move from her parents to Moscow. She remembers her father's sad eyes when they parted. And 2 weeks later her father dies. Against the background of feelings of guilt, the girl develops auto-aggression, as well as aggression towards her mother, and develops an anxiety disorder (fear of death). Having choked on crumbs while eating, the girl begins to experience fear of food. Next - visits to doctors, refusal to eat (I ate only liquid food in microdoses), the appearance of panic attacks. In this state she comes to see me. I will not dwell on psychotherapeutic techniques. In short: we grieved for our father, worked through our fears, worked through our relationships with our mother and sister. The EOT technique was mainly used: the girl has a very good imagination and high sensitivity to techniques. Plus body-oriented therapy. Further, I catch myself thinking that psychotherapeutically we have done everything that was needed, but... Yes, there are improvements: she is starting to eat food in pieces. However, discomfort in the throat and difficulty swallowing remain. What to do? There are points under the earlobes that are very painful when pressed, which is usually observed when a person gets angry a lot in the course of his life. I give her exercises: 1) Press firmly on the points on both sides with your fingers and hold the pressure for 2 minutes with constant force (despite the pain). Stop pressing, relax your lower jaw, and lightly stroke along the jaw line. Tension - Relaxation. 2) Using your fingers, gently pull the lower jaw down and hold the pressure for 2 minutes with constant force. Stop pressing, relax your lower jaw, and lightly stroke along the jaw line. Tension - Relaxation. 3) Hold the wine cork (vertically) between your teeth for 1-2 minutes. Then relax your jaws. Tension - Relaxation. 4) Actively rubbing the neck with a full palm over the entire surface, with movements from top to bottom. After these exercises done at the reception, the girl came home and had dinner calmly. After a week of exercises, she forgot about any problems with swallowing. The problem was hypertonicity of the masticatory muscles and neck muscles, which was not relieved by psychotherapy, but with the help of exercises the muscles learned to be in a relaxed state. The conversion model, the transition of a mental conflict into a somatic one (in our case, muscle tone) through the displacement of threatening or unwanted elements from consciousness, was proposed back in his time by Sigmund Freud.
