From the author: Often we want to find the root of the problem. But not everyone knows how to do this. Today, I will share with you an important professional secret. During psychological consultations, I have to ask clients a lot of questions, this helps to clarify the situation, test hypotheses, give the person an idea, etc. As an ordinary person, I want to know “why?”, why this or that event happens in his life? But as a psychologist, I know that people most often answer this question with some rationalized logical reason that is not actually true. For example, one of my clients often got sick before important events. To the question “why?” he referred to poor health, time of year, stress, fatigue, etc. But when he was asked the question “why?”, the picture changed dramatically, and the true reason came to the surface. As you might guess, he unknowingly fell ill in order to avoid unnecessary meetings, as well as to attract the attention of those around him, from whom he expected care. Such an understanding is usually hidden very deeply in a person, and therefore sometimes you have to ask the question “why?” ten times in a row in order to get to the bottom of the original reason. Most often, this turns out to be some kind of unsatisfied need of a person, which he himself has long repressed into the subconscious. This technique, known as the Ultimate Meaning Method, works as follows. For example, you want to understand the underlying reason why you often turn on the Internet and look at Facebook. The sequence of answers and questions may look something like this: - Why do you often turn on the Internet? - To keep abreast of events. - Why do you need to be aware of events? - To better navigate the world around you. - Why do you need to better navigate the world around you? - To adapt better.- Why do you need to adapt better?- To earn more.- Why earn more?- To feel confident?- Why do you need to feel confident?- To attract attention.- Why do you need to attract attention?- To gain recognition from others. In our example, a chain of questions led to the need for recognition by others. However, it can lead to any other basic need that a person is trying to satisfy, this could be recognition, security, communication, acceptance, respect, love, etc. And already knowing the unmet need, you can easily come up with ways to solve and help the person .We were “why” in childhood, when we wanted to understand the essence of things. Having matured, it’s time to become “why” in order to easily navigate the true underlying reasons.
