In this day and age, when our schedules resemble a puzzle and obligations fall on us like snow in the middle of winter, we often forget the importance of living for our pleasure. Living in hustle and bustle and constant stress may become the norm, but let's look at this issue from a psychological point of view. First, let's note that it is pleasure that allows us to enjoy life. The desire for pleasure and avoidance of pain is innate in us. From an evolutionary perspective, this was important for survival: we sought out food, sexual partners, and other pleasures to increase our chances of passing on our genes to the next generation. And although there is no longer a need to hunt in the jungle or pick berries for food, our brains still strive for pleasure. Now that we know that pleasure is a built-in part of our psyche, why not take advantage of this knowledge? After all, what is the point of living if you don’t enjoy it? However, there is another trap waiting for us here. We don't always find a balance between pleasure and responsibility. If we become too immersed in the world of pleasure, we may encounter a number of troubles, and perhaps even become the hero of some joke. But if we get too deep into work and obligations, we risk “burning out” without time to rest. And here I, as a psychologist with 10 years of experience, support you. Notice how often you say “no” to yourself? No sweets after six, no new hobby due to lack of time, no vacation... From a psychological point of view, giving up small pleasures is, of course, not dedication, but rather missed opportunities. Opportunities to feel joy and get to know yourself better. After all, every “yes” for yourself is like a mini-experiment, a test: what will it be like if...? How many times in my practice have I heard stories about how people learned to say “yes” and how it changed them. Maybe it's time to just relax and give yourself permission to enjoy life. After all, not all decisions in life need to be thought out to the smallest detail. What about just allowing yourself to be happy?
