Unfavorable set of circumstances A conflict can arise without anyone’s desire, as a result of a combination of circumstances. Circumstances that are a conflict of the type under consideration: the need to stand in line, contact with an irritated person, unpleasant news or incident, inability to fulfill what was promised, unexpected change in the situation, bad weather (heat, cold, ice, rain, strong wind), deficiencies in the operation of public transport, etc. In particular, in public transport there may be crowding, an unpleasant smell, and people may step on their feet - all of these are conflictogens . But even without these factors disturbing the mental balance, the proximity of passengers to each other is in itself a conflictogen. Research by the American anthropologist E.T. Hall showed that around each person there is a territory that he perceives as personal space. It is like a continuation of his body, a fence surrounding the house. This zone is called intimate. According to research, the average length of this zone is up to 45 cm. Parents, children, spouses, and lovers are allowed to enter this zone. In this zone there is a subzone with a radius of 15 cm, which is called superintimate. And then completely strangers penetrate into it (without any permission!), and by chance they also turned out to be passengers. Thus, numerous conflicts in public transport are quite understandable. Knowing the conflict potential of such situations allows you to set yourself up for greater immunity to the listed conflict generators..
