My second professional love is cognitive-behavioral therapy. In general, of course, I am not in the profession for love - the idea is initially so-so and leads to burnout (but that’s not what I’m talking about). You will either never have a lot of money, or you will simply be oversaturated with it... and then what? Next is the implementation of the life mission (see the previous post or pinned ones) (I should think about the idea of running a YouTube channel or a TV show 😁, because I can talk about psychology for hours. And it’s difficult to fit all the delight into just one post, from a forbidden network refused, but there is no need to return, and no desire either). What is there in CBT?!🔹 structure;🔹 relative speed (on average interaction lasts from 6 to 20 meetings);🔹 scientific validity. At the same time, without detracting from the establishment of good therapeutic alliance, with unconditional empathy, support and non-judgment in working with the client! Some colleagues from other areas consider CBT to be a dry, harsh and directive method. But this is absolutely NOT SO. Yes, in CBT there are homework assignments, certain techniques and protocols, but this does not immediately pour out everything on the client like a tub of water. And it is applied in a very dosed manner, like in a pharmacy. The absolute advantage of the method is that the client HAS changes after therapy! This is not about “they talked and went their separate ways”, but the behavior and reactions remained the same... Of course, it is impossible to change a personality 100%, and this must be understood. Especially if we are talking about clients with personality disorders, then rather the task will be to teach them to live more comfortably with it. And the emphasis will be on behavioral activation, and not on changing cognitions and deep-seated negative attitudes about oneself. Again, work with a conditionally mentally stable person, a client with neurosis and at the level of a personality disorder will be built completely differently. And here the psychologist’s responsibility is, firstly, to understand and distinguish this, and secondly, to be aware of the scope of his competencies (who I work with and who I don’t; who I can help, and with whom I will be ineffective). For example, after therapy the client I have become more confident and can defend my position. But a serious clash with the boss happens (getting under stress) and the client, in the moment “here and now,” again resorts to the previous coping strategy... And this is normal. When you constantly drive, sitting on the left, and change to a right-hand drive car, you will gradually get used to it to management, self-awareness in it. But if a dangerous situation arises, 99% of the time the person will turn on the wipers instead of the turn signal. And this story will be about the fact that in a stressful situation, old reactions are most likely to work. Another thing is how long they will be. In theory, the main task of a CBT psychologist is to leave himself without work, to teach the client the skills of effective self-management and self-regulation. So that when an acute situation arises, having calmed down, returning through the work of the frontal lobes of the brain, a person can sort out the situation himself, not run helplessly again to a psychologist and make the most optimal informed decision in each specific situation. I have repeatedly seen in my work with clients how with the help of CBT alone (without the introduction of pharmacotherapy by a doctor), depression rates are reduced (when we are talking, of course, not about endogenous, caused by internal reasons in the imbalance of neurotransmitters). CBT works very effectively with fears: be it about public speaking, fear of spiders or aerophobia and much more. A person learns new reactions and behavioral strategies. When working with queries about self-esteem and self-confidence, I also use the CBT approach. Since more often the reason is in the negative influence of a deep-seated belief, with which cognitive behavioral therapy works very effectively. As for training in this area, two CBT courses are already behind us: this is a course at the Institute of Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology named after. B.D. Karvasarsky and a basic course at the Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, of which I am also a member. Let's add here +79778058851
