When assessing irrational thoughts in cognitive behavioral therapy, the psychologist uses many distancing techniques. Before forming a constructive view of the problem, it indicates that the THOUGHT - which caused the problem - IS JUST A THOUGHT, and not a reflection of reality. Only relying on it do people perform actions. Thought without action is a blank cartridge. There is a “distance” between reality and problematic thought. In order to create/enlarge it, I often use the “From Space” technique. Personally, it immerses me in feelings of deep serenity and peace. TECHNOLOGY “FROM SPACE” Look at the photo: This is planet Earth and the Moon from a distance of 64 million kilometers. Two points. One of them is divided by continents, countries, cities, streets. And they continue to divide it. Moreover, grandiose wars are fought on it and revolutions are organized. You also live there in your apartment - and all this fits on the Point among the endless, cosmic darkness. When a person is in the midst of earthly passions, the Point becomes everything that exists. However, what is She to the infinity that surrounds Her? This is what I think about when I feel fear or anxiety. When I encounter a boor in transport or witness injustice or lies. Unpleasant? Yes. But - I cannot help but repeat myself - what is this in comparison with infinity? So, the essence of the technique is simple: 1. Show the photo to the client (I would print it out and hang it on the wall);2. Specify the problem;3. Offer to look at it from there, from distant space; 4. Use leading questions: “What does it look like for you to quit your job in another part of the Galaxy?” or “At this point, in one of the countries, in the city of NN, on the street of NN, there is a man sitting in the bedroom... on the bed, in his head the thought “I was fired from my job.” What is dismissal from work within the Earth, and within the Universe?" etc. Awareness of the fragility of Humanity makes it possible to become more spiritual. Reject everyday (material) problems in the face of cosmic Chaos. Move away from “earthly” subjectivism. This frightens and makes you tremble, however, it also allows you to become more or less objective. For, whatever one may say, our thought is not the whole world, our fears are specks of dust in the seething stream of the Milky Way... this allows us to look at the roots and distance ourselves, without merging with the destructive emotions of our “here and now.” Thank you for your attention!
