I was talking with a friend on Skype. She's sad in self-isolation. And she told me her secret: “I have already used 4 rolls of toilet paper during this time. And how much more will we have to use before it all ends...” And there was melancholy in her voice. And I understood why she was so sad. She measures time with toilet paper. She measures her life by used soft pieces of paper. I would also feel sad if I were in her place. Remember the Soviet cartoon “38 Parrots”? In it, the length of the boa constrictor was measured by parrots, monkeys, and baby elephants. And in parrots it turned out to be much longer. And now, when the world is sitting at home, everyone measures this period not only in days, hours and weeks, but also in what this time is filled with. My friend measures it with toilet paper. How much did you use? Some measure it in extra pounds. They eat a lot now. And they eat up stress. Some people quarrel with their loved ones. Here you can count real and virtual quarrels. Some can be measured by food eaten and empty bottles. Some can be measured by used and discarded garbage bags. Some can be measured by the number of films and TV series watched. Some can be measured by assembled pictures from puzzles. Some measure this time with knitted socks and shawls. Some by drawn or embroidered paintings, some written poems, songs, novels, books. Some, online drawing lessons for children; some, books they read. Some, learned foreign phrases and words. Some, the number of solved crosswords and scanwords. Some - then renovated rooms, someone acquired the right habits, etc. etc. Sooner or later, self-isolation will end and how will it remain in your memory? This is also a piece of our life. The time allotted to us on earth. And although the circumstances are not very pleasant, only we decide how to fill this time and what to do with ourselves. But it will probably be sad to remember that there was a month in your life that was measured by the number of toilet paper used.
