Clients often contact me with a request to work with negative emotions. This is not surprising: we live in a century when there is a colossal level of stress, and society dictates the need to control emotions. For those who are not interested in breaking dishes and tearing paper, I can recommend several ways to work with negative emotions: The easiest way: take a sheet of paper, any materials you like and start filling it out. For example, in such a situation, I take crayons and simply paint on the sheet until there is no white space left. Despite the simplicity of this technique, due to the work of fine motor skills, it turns out to be very effective and meditative. By the end of the work, all the intensity goes away. Tip: For those who don’t want to draw, you can buy anti-stress coloring books - they work on a similar principle.2. Draw a circle on the sheet of paper and fill it as you wish (A circle gives a feeling of security, and also helps to cope with the fear of a blank sheet). For this exercise, I suggest using gouache. Take the colors that best express your emotional state. After you express your emotion, look at your drawing, think about what you would like to change? What colors would you like to add? Do it. At the end you should like the work.3What does your feeling look like? Imagine what your irritation/anger/anger/resentment looks like (underline as appropriate). Draw it as you imagine it. What emotions does it evoke in you when drawn? What is she like? Do you want to add to the drawing? If yes, then be sure to do it. More advanced users may want to think about what this emotion gives them? Why do they hold on to it? How does she help? And if you can thank her, then that’s great!4. Working with soft materials. You can take clay, plasticine or slime (in my time they were called “slime”). These materials can be stretched, torn and wrinkled, which serves as an excellent vehicle for expressing emotions. You can even mold emotions from clay or plasticine, and then the algorithm works as in p.3.
