It's no secret to my friends and colleagues that lately I've been working a lot with people who are in the process of career transition. A couple of weeks ago I wanted to find out more about him - not through books and individual meetings, as usual, but through a short questionnaire (after all, I really miss research). To my surprise, there were a lot of people willing to take the survey - by the end of the day I already had about 30 completed questionnaires. And those who wish to do so still continue to write to me. The results turned out to be much more interesting than I thought. What those surveyed were most dissatisfied with in their current workplace was wages and a lot of stress at work. In third place is the work schedule. And only in fourth place is lack of interest in the field of activity. In general, I would like to note that the topic of money appeared very often - sometimes even more often than the topic of pleasure from work. A sad reflection of the economic situation in the country. It is curious that the greatest difficulty in the transition process is created by internal factors - a lack of understanding of what I really want and self-doubt. Therefore, one of the most important points in dealing with a career crisis is learning to understand your own needs and working with self-esteem. Thanks to the results - they helped me gather practical experience into a heap.) They keep me in my current position mainly due to finances. Yes, that’s right - the same salary that respondents are so dissatisfied with. For example, phrases such as “at least some money”, “little, but stable”, “not enough, but I can plan” were heard. The two most frightening things about this career transition are: what may not work out and what you may not like. And here it also resonated with me - the fear of error is very characteristic of our society, and in tandem with economic instability it creates a combustible mixture. But the support of other people helps to cope with the crisis almost unanimously - for some it is friends, for others it is a partner, someone has parents. Some people receive most of their support from a therapist. Something that could help a lot, but is not/is not enough in the respondents’ lives, is, again, financial stability and the support of loved ones. And this last point sounds almost like a summary for the entire questionnaire. To summarize, in a situation of career transition we really find ourselves between two fires. One part of us craves “little, without pleasure, but stable”, and the other - “a favorite thing, a free schedule and work for yourself.” A separate surprise for me was the importance of the topic of money. I mean, no, I wasn't trying to diminish their importance, I just didn't expect it to be that big. And it’s not customary for us to talk about them.
