Let's figure it out first: what are emotions? And why manage them? Emotions feed our life, make it bright, rich, colorful. Or, on the contrary, dull, sad, dreary, and ultimately boring. We most often think about managing emotions for two reasons. Either there are not enough pleasant experiences in life, or there are a lot of experiences, but they are destructive. How do people usually cope with emotions? Imagine a triangle with Will, Emotions, Awareness at the tops. They are connected and work in the sequence: V-E-O. Will here is the effort that is aimed at controlling emotions. Most often this is the suppression of unwanted experiences. It can be anger, anger, love, and tenderness. For some reason these feelings are blocked by the Will. As you understand, if a stream is blocked with a dam, it will gain strength and break through. And everything that has been accumulating, boiling over, will spill out into anger, rage, or irritation. And all this multiplied by the strength of the “stream”. This can destroy relationships with loved ones. This is followed by the Awareness of one’s temper, tactlessness, and the ensuing feeling of guilt. And the “right” decision is to strengthen the control of the Will over the feelings. How long can a person stay in this circle? I think for a very long time. We still need to cope with emotions somehow, and we come up with new ways: we begin to blame others for making us angry, direct our anger at those who have done nothing to us - for example, at people in a crowded minibus. Is there a way to get out of this? this circle? Yes, to do this you need to change the direction of movement in the “triangle”. First of all, direct Awareness to Emotions. Thus, not to suppress them, but to understand them. After all, emotions sometimes signal important things, needs. After realizing emotions, understanding what I really want, the opportunity arises to change something, change the situation, express my needs with the help of Will. Next, recognize the changes and draw conclusions. Evolution has endowed us with strong-willed qualities, with the help of which we can recognize emotions, discover their meaning for ourselves, thereby better understanding ourselves and other people.
