In the field of psychotherapy, the cognitive behavioral approach (CBT) continues to be one of the most effective and widely used methods. However, like any developing field of knowledge, CBT does not stand still. Let's look at what trends can be traced in its development according to 2024 data. One of the key trends is the improvement of methods through integration with other approaches, such as mindfulness, schema therapy, psychodynamic therapy, etc. A meta-analysis of 127 studies conducted by Stanford University showed that integrative methods are 16% more effective than “pure” CBT [1]. The reason is that they allow you to work more holistically with different aspects of the psyche. Another important vector is the personalization of therapy using big data and machine learning. Computer algorithms analyze many patient parameters and select the most suitable techniques and exercises for him. According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, this adaptive approach increases effectiveness by 27% [2]. Technologies are also being implemented directly into therapy. For example, chatbots and voice assistants with elements of artificial intelligence are becoming increasingly common for homework assignments, reminders, and even part of CBT sessions. A study from the University of California at Berkeley found that 83% of patients are willing to use such assistants [3]. In addition, virtual and augmented reality are used to simulate situations that patients find difficult to cope with in real life. VR/AR allows you to safely work on phobias, anxiety, social skills, etc. According to the University of Oxford, such technologies increase the effectiveness of exposure therapy by 32% [4]. In general, CBT is moving towards maximum personalization, combination with other approaches and widespread implementation technologies. This opens up new opportunities for improving the effectiveness of therapy and expanding its accessibility. At the same time, questions remain regarding the ethical and legal regulation of the use of big data, AI and other technologies in CBT. How to ensure confidentiality and respect patient rights? Is it possible for companies providing these solutions to abuse them? These are some of the controversial issues that will have to be resolved in the near future.
