Today there are quite a lot of specialists. But despite such diversity, choosing “your” psychologist to whom you can entrust all your thoughts and feelings is quite difficult. What should you do, look for it based on the recommendations of your friends or still try to find it yourself? To answer this question, I would like to add a little clarity: a psychologist is conditionally, not an English tutor, whom you can contact based on recommendations, but a specialist whom you must choose yourself. The one that suits you. Choosing your personal psychologist can take place in several stages: 1) Study the specialist’s profile. The first thing you should pay attention to is the photograph. From this you will understand whether the person is pleasant to you and whether you can make contact. 2) Find out about his education (where and in what place he studied), experience and work experience, what direction in psychology he uses, what methods he uses in his work. 3) Pay attention to the psychologist’s thoughts, notes, publications and articles that are published on his personal website or social networks (VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Facebook, Instagram*). 4) Write or call a specialist (the moment of first communication is important for your choice). Agree on the first meeting: time, place and payment. At the first consultation, pay attention to the important qualities of the psychologist: - level of empathy towards you; - is he able to listen and hear you; - does he respect your space and interests; - treat you and your opinion without judgment; - Is he able to convey information to you in a way that is understandable? - what methods of work he has, and which ones he offers specifically to you (the more methods a specialist has, the more you can be sure that the approach to you will be individual, selected specifically for you, for your unique situation). Remember, a psychologist does not decide for you how to live and what to do, and does not give advice. This is a professional who accompanies you on the path to positive changes in your life. The manner of conversation, thoughts, atmosphere of consultation, in general, the work of a psychologist, should be liked by you, you should accept it. Talking about your thoughts and feelings is quite difficult, so trust a professional who will guide you on the right path to improve your life. * Instagram is owned by Meta, which is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia.
