— From time to time I feel like I’m going crazy. Either I want to give up everything and leave, then I give up and don’t want anything. I feel worthless. -How long have you been having these thoughts? —5 months.—Did something happen 5 months ago? -No. One day I realized that I didn’t want anything. I'm unhappy with myself. I look in the mirror and I don’t like it. Young people at work are annoying. Work makes me sick. And it seems that nothing good will happen anymore. I missed the time... Powerlessness and weakness are symptoms of many psychological problems. One of them is a crisis, when the old no longer works, and the new has not yet been created. It is accompanied by problems with sleep and emotional instability. A person is lonely and it seems that no one understands him. Throughout life we have many crises, for example, the crisis of 25-30 years. About 30, but in life there are only disappointments and I don’t have what others have. And there is no longer any faith that everything is ahead. I feel like I wasted my youth. It seems to him that his classmates have achieved more: they have serious affairs, business, careers, families, but he is looking for some part-time work, some small goals, because of this he somehow feels uneasy. Or crisis 35-45 years. At this time, fatigue and boredom from the same thing accumulate. It seems that it is too late to change something, so there is a desire to give up everything altogether, to turn life upside down, so that in a new life it will be possible to realize all the forgotten and suppressed hopes and dreams that have been accumulating in the soul since a young age. At this age, a person realizes the value of life and its transience. He begins to feel the approach of old age and death. This is frightening and causes anxiety, even panic. In order to somehow drown out the anxiety, many indulge in all sorts of serious things, from binge drinking and infidelity to joining religion. The problem occurs when the crisis is confused with burnout or something else. It differs from emotional burnout, accordingly, it is necessary to work with them in different ways. And, if emotional burnout is when a person spent a lot of effort on some project: he “lived it” with rapture and interest and enthusiasm gave way to “nausea” from the project and from life, then a crisis is a revaluation of values. If you cannot cope with a crisis or burnout on your own, if you wait a long time for something to “somehow go away on its own” and it does not go away for a long time, depression is possible. In most cases, treatment of depression requires psychotherapy with medication support. It is much easier to pay attention to yourself, your needs, take care of yourself and seek help in time. A crisis is always a chance to change life for the better! With respect and gratitude for your attention, your psychologist Yulia Zhukova. ©Zhukova Yu.
