Sometimes it rains outside and this causes a depressed emotional state, and you want to do something to feel good. It's a normal reaction to make ourselves feel better. The problem comes when we try to influence something we cannot influence. The problem is not solved and we plunge into a depressed state, or we try to take more drastic measures, which may help for a while, but their consequences are definitely not worth it. There is a phrase - change what you can change, accept what you cannot change and the main thing here is not to get confused. Viktor Frankl very clearly described the control zones. For example, we can influence our thoughts and behavior, literally we can choose what to think and what to do, choose our attitude towards the situation. But we cannot influence the weather, the actions of other people, the aging process, natural disasters, government regime... And the moment I realize this, I have a choice of what to do. If I think that I should control external conditions, then I try to change them and, when that doesn’t work, I take extreme measures, for example, I can scold the weather, forget about my work and go out of grief to drink. If I think that I can choose my attitude towards the situation, then I will bring my emotions to a normal state and I will do actions that are important and necessary to me. The moment of this choice is a skill that can be learned and trained. The question arises here - how to influence emotions? There are many ways to reduce the intensity of emotions. Depending on your condition, you can choose several suitable ones. For example, when the weather is dreary, I really like the technique of “improving the moment.” To do this, I need to think about what exactly I can do now to make me feel better, more pleasant, more comfortable. What can I do in just a few minutes that will allow me to continue doing the things that matter? What helped me, made me happy and lifted my spirits before? It could be a walk, a favorite song, yoga, playing a musical instrument, a video on the Internet, a book... Something that will give strength and not add excitement.
