There is spontaneous fear and fright that arose as a result of purposeful actions, provoked intentionally. What we are seeing today is the second version of fear. We see information aggression around us - everywhere they write only about coronavirus and quarantine - as if this is the most terrible disease in the last hundred years. How many people die every day from cancer, from suicide, from flu, from alcohol and drugs, but there is no word about it. In addition, the media are escalating the situation with photographs of coffins and other horror stories. If the situation is really bad, why blow all the trumpets about it? Correct it silently, and give people something positive, at least take care of their mental health, if you cannot properly take care of their physical condition. But manipulators are calculating people. They have their own goals, which they, of course, are silent about, and ways to achieve them. Any manipulation is built according to the following scheme: 1) Manipulators, through certain actions, cause in you a feeling of fear, a feeling of despair, a feeling of hopelessness and doubt. 2) Under the influence of fear and unpleasant thoughts, your internal level of anxiety greatly increases 3) Manipulators show you an alternative future, as if saying: “Do as I suggest to you, and you will get rid of anxiety, you will feel safe.” Fear encourages us to act in a certain way to avoid the threat and free yourself from the anxiety caused by it. Therefore, the one who seeks to intimidate, to a certain extent, enslaves the will of his victim. A man who terrorizes his wife is guilty of deliberate intimidation and tyranny. He forces her to resort in response to a threat to one of the oldest stereotypes of behavior: submission. Fear makes us submissive, weak-willed creatures. We should pay attention to intimidation strategies because then we will better understand the mechanisms of fear. Instilling fear is very beneficial and unfortunately now people forget about it. Psychologist Marina José Antonio describes in detail the various ways to instill fear, which are used by manipulators of different stripes. Among them: 1) Intimidation and threats 2) Exaggeration and catastrophizing 3) Deprivation of encouragement 4) Isolation Let's take a closer look at isolation. Marina says that many animals panic if they are locked up. When a predator pursues prey, it tries to separate the animal from the herd or find a lone individual. Belonging to a group of your own kind provides reliable protection. The same thing happens to people, which is why dictators first abolish the right of assembly. Research in the field of gender-based violence shows that often the aggressor, in an effort to enslave the victim, tries to isolate her, not allowing her to maintain relationships with her family, depriving her of any opportunity to communicate with others, forcing her to refuse support from social structures that can at least somehow help her. It all starts with criticism of the family, then the unfortunate woman is forbidden to visit, she is locked at home, and tormented by jealousy. In a word, they are doomed to loneliness. The feeling of hopelessness causes desperate attempts to escape, which can sometimes cost them their lives. The ability to control and influence a situation is a great cure for fear. Once you lose it, the feeling of vulnerability immediately increases. Sociologist Michael Sandel identifies two fundamental fears that characterize our anxiety-plagued society: “The first is the fear that the forces that control our lives will spin out of control, and the second is that everything around us, from the family to the country as a whole, will begin to collapse. Both constitute the main concern in the modern world.” And now tips on how to resist the manipulation of fear: 1) Ignore horror stories, critically evaluate information, especially that which is presented aggressively 2) Do not let catastrophizing “settle” in your mind.
