Let's look at strategies that teachers can use in class so that students listen; this will also be useful in any other activity where the speaker needs the attention of listeners. It often happens that students do not listen to the teacher who is teaching the lesson. Students tend to get distracted, do some things - draw, communicate, but are not involved in the teacher’s explanations. Children listen to one teacher with interest, but not the other. Why does this happen? Typically, teachers who are puzzled by this issue do not see the problem in themselves, and look for the reasons for such behavior of students outside, thinking that the children are simply not interested, talking about weak discipline. But this fact is more influenced by the personal qualities of the teacher: temperament, consistency and clarity of writing, presentation skills, and neat appearance. But the most important factor is how you speak and present the material. Let's consider what you need to do to get students or any other listeners to listen to you: 1. Don't speak too loudly, don't try to "talk over". The teacher raises his voice so that the students can hear better. This is unpleasant for listeners, and they try to distract themselves from what is annoying. When the voice sounds quieter, students will try not to fuss in order to hear the teacher, they will watch your facial expressions and gestures.2. Talk less. Don't talk too much, monotonously, hastily; Also, there is no need to turn your speech into a monologue of reminders, comments, repetitions. Focus on the material that students need to know - your speech will be clear and meaningful, students will begin to listen. 3. Don't use repetitive repetition. When you repeat the same thing several times, you encourage students to become distracted. Speak only what is relevant - this will motivate students to listen to you carefully, and will also give them the motivation to take responsibility for their learning success. If you have started using these techniques but feel that you cannot achieve what you want, do not despair even if you change give the opposite effect. This is fine. Students are accustomed to ignoring you and it is not so easy for them to change their minds, and children will begin to change when they understand that you are transferring responsibility for their learning and performance from yourself to them. These simple methods will allow you to raise good listeners and grateful students. Author: Natalya Dyachenko , psychologist-psychotherapist, in person, online - sign up for a consultation
