The code of ethics regulates the activities of psychologists and represents certain moral requirements for specialists, which are reflected in a number of rules. So, let’s look at the 6 most popular rules that regulate the professional activities of a psychologist.1. Safe spaceThe psychologist responds to the situation, avoiding value judgments for the client’s actions. Has knowledge that helps to build a line of behavior in conflict situations, strives to develop the depth of personal relationships with the client.2. Acceptance and support The psychologist is empathic, sympathizes with the life situation, has a non-judgmental attitude towards the individual characteristics of clients, is emotionally stable and objective. 3. Respect for human dignity The psychologist patiently and respectfully treats the client’s personality, his life experience and experiences, gives the opportunity to speak out, shows sympathy and attention. 4. Confidentiality The psychologist accepts personal responsibility for maintaining the client’s secret and does not distribute it to third parties, except for discussing the client’s situation at a meeting with the supervisor.5. Uses a scientific approach In her work she uses scientifically based methods of psychotherapy (cognitive behavioral psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, gestalt and other methods). Does not use fortune telling, astrology, tarot, numerology and other methods that do not have a scientific evidence base.6. ResponsibilityThe psychologist takes responsibility for the techniques and methods of work that he uses when counseling clients. What a psychologist should NOT do: work with a client through barter, flirt, be authoritarian and passive, satisfy personal needs at the expense of clients, evaluate the actions of clients, insult and humiliate a person’s personal dignity, should not give advice, does not have the right to prescribe medications and give recommendations on taking pills. If you notice such an attitude of a psychologist towards you, then this is a reason to think about changing the specialist. Treat yourself with care and concern.
