Crises associated with job loss are referred to as “adaptation” crises. They are characterized by violations of human living conditions with a sharp change in material condition. The old life is impossible, a person’s habitual behavior changes, significant values are lost, anxiety and tension appear, and the need to build new forms of behavior arises. If a person loses his job, he cannot continue his previous lifestyle; the current conditions force him to look for new sources of income and change his behavior. The crisis associated with job loss occurs in four phases: First, a state of shock appears. This is a difficult experience, fear, loss. I would like to note that the very threat of losing a job causes the same feelings. Many people begin to experience relief, constructive adjustment and joy from having a lot of free time. They begin an active search for work, however, for some people the stress associated with job loss remains, and they tend to exaggerate the danger of the current situation. The duration of this phase is approximately three to five months. If a person does not find a job for more than six months, health problems may appear. Habits, interests, goals are destroyed, the person becomes passive. The person comes to terms with the current situation, he loses hope that he will find a new job and stops trying to find one. There may also be a fear of another job, people may overthink themselves that there will be a bad team in the new place, they will be delayed or not pay wages at all. The negative consequences of losing a job can be deterioration in health, depression, apathy, addiction to alcohol and even suicide. A person who has lost his job has low self-esteem, a tendency toward pessimism, and a loss of purpose in life. Some problems in family life may come to light; studies show that in such families the unemployed can move away from loved ones, the risk of divorce increases threefold. As statistics show, by 39%, the risk of committing crimes increases among the unemployed. Young people who cannot find work for a long time pose a particular criminal danger. It is very important in this difficult situation not to despair, to reconsider your behavior, to develop new job search strategies that may be more effective than previous ones. There are a number of methods that allow you to actively and effectively get involved in your job search. Using these methods, a person learns to set adequate goals, act taking into account his personal characteristics and the characteristics of the situation, evaluate his actions and look for alternative solutions. And first of all, you must remember that everything is in your hands, much in life depends on your internal state and behavior! Author of the article Lunyushin S.A. (2008)Source
