What qualities should a psychologist have? Professional qualities can be characterized as the individual qualities of a psychotherapist that influence the effectiveness and success of his activities. The professional competence of a psychologist consists in his compliance with moral and ethical standards of behavior, which ensure his adaptability, reflection, and self-regulation. In my opinion, the most important quality of a psychotherapist is a respectful attitude towards a person. In the study of personality traits necessary for a consultant, several features are highlighted. The most important thing, in my opinion, is authenticity, which is primarily expressed in sincerity towards the client and serves as an example of flexible behavior. Authenticity is expressed in full awareness of the moment, choosing a way of living in this moment and taking responsibility for it. Another, no less important quality is empathy, the ability to comprehend the emotional state of another person. Empathy is not only the ability to empathize, but also to understand the client. Empathy is the basis for building a trusting relationship between therapist and client. Reflection. The ability to reflect on one’s mental state and analyze one’s experiences is also an important component of a psychologist’s personality. Each therapist is required to undergo a personal analysis. This is necessary, among other things, in order to help the patient and for the therapist to understand his feelings. Some people ask the question: why are you undergoing personal therapy, are you a psychologist? How can you not undergo analysis and have the opportunity to be a psychologist? How to channel your experience, your feelings, emotions received during countertransference? This is also a therapy process and an indicator of the specialist’s reflection. Self-knowledge. The more a consultant knows himself, the more and better he understands people, and the more he knows people, the more he knows himself. Every psychologist needs to be realistic about himself. Every person must have the skills to adequately perceive the world and their own abilities, and life in general. A psychotherapist, as a guide to the world of the soul, simply needs!
