From the author: In this article I will tell you what the Balance Model in Positive Psychotherapy is and how to bring your life into balance if something is not going as you would like. One of the three pillars of Positive Psychotherapy is the principle of balance. Its main idea is that our life is viewed in four dimensions. It is generally accepted that intrapersonal conflicts and various diseases arise in those areas where there is an imbalance. Accordingly, insufficient development leads to a deficit, and excessive development leads to excess. In order to make it more clear what we are talking about, as well as how to work with it, the so-called Balance Model (hereinafter: MB) is used in positive psychotherapy. The bottom line is that all our life and vital energy is distributed into four main areas: Body, Activity, Relationships (Contacts), Fantasies (Meaning). Visually, it looks like this: Ideally, each area should account for 25%. That is, total = 100%. But this, unfortunately, is very rare. As a rule, there is some “skew” in one or more areas. To determine your own balance, you can do a simple exercise right now. Step #1. Draw the MB in the form of a diamond, as in the picture above, and then write down for each of the four areas what percentage of your life energy you think you invest in it. The numbers may turn out completely different. Don’t let it bother you if you wrote a lot in some places and just a little in others. Even “zero” is allowed. At the same time, try to be as honest and objective as possible, because you are not doing this for someone, but for yourself =) Here you need to remember the main rule: We diagnose excess, but work with deficiency. That is, there is no need to try to subtract from the area where there was a lot. On the contrary, you need to focus where the shortcoming is. These areas will become your goal! Step No. 2. Write down for each area the desired percentage that you would like to receive at the end. The total should also not be more than 100%. And now you can proceed to step No. 3 - directly, restoring and/or finding balance in life. We divide it into two stages: Stage A: For each of the areas of MB, write down what you need to do: - in the “Body” area - physical activity, body care, etc., what exactly can help move towards the goal (one should also take into account the fact that physical activity improves mood and increases tone, and this is quite important for obtaining the final result); — in the area of ​​“Achievements” - what exactly, what very specific steps/actions need to be taken for this; — in the “Contacts” area - what kind of relationships and with whom it is necessary/desirable to establish in order to obtain the desired result; - and for the “Fantasy/Meaning” area - what personal qualities or concepts can help in realizing your plans? Which ones should you develop?Step B: Now for each of the four areas, write down one very simple action that you could easily do regularly (daily) for 3-5 minutes. This can be any action of your choice: from, for example, simple morning exercises to daily reading of scientific works - depending on your goal. The most important thing here is regularity and consistency in execution.
