Continuing the article about SERM. We continue to work with thoughts and attitudes. When, with the help of SERM, you have managed to capture the thoughts that trigger negative behavior and emotions, we check them for the presence of cognitive distortions. Generalizations, overgeneralizations - when you draw general conclusions based on one case, indicator words - everyone / no one, always / never. / Today I couldn’t pass the test, I will never get a diploma. / Catastrophization - constant expectation of a terrible catastrophe, terrible consequences . /After this failed test, I will fail the exam. I will be expelled from the institute and kicked out of the house. Life is over./Polarization is black and white thinking, it's all or nothing./If I don't get this position, my life is worthless./Mind reading - you don't need to ask what others think, you already know it, and you know it too what they feel and what they are going to do. /He didn’t look at me when he entered the room. He definitely hates me./Labels are a focus not on facts and objective events, but on a label./I am a loser. He is a bad person./Personalization - all the reactions of others are directed at you, there are no other explanations./I was pushed into the subway because no one gives me any credit./Devaluation - your strengths and positive experiences do not count./I passed this one exam, but I was just lucky./Obligation - clear rules on how to behave and how not to. Indicators - must, must, worth./I must do everything perfectly so that I can be a good wife./Emotional confirmation - only what you feel right now is true, regardless of the facts./I received the highest scores on the assessment in department, but I still feel that I need to work better./You can also “check” your thoughts in the following way - find three arguments confirming this thought, and now three arguments against it. Does this thought correspond to reality? What other explanations could there be for this situation? This is one way to work with automatic thoughts, anxiety and maladaptive attitudes. Go for it! :)
